Proto-Celtic
Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *kh₂néti (“to sing”), from the root *keh₂n-.[1] Cognate with Latin canere (“to sing, chant, sound, play (an instrument)”) and possibly Sanskrit कणति (kaṇati, “to make noise, cry out, call”).
