Etymology
Probably from Proto-Uralic *lëpće (“cradle”), in which case cognate to Erzya лавсь (lavsʹ), Eastern Mari лепш (lepš), Tundra Nenets [script needed] (jebcᵊ), Nganasan [script needed] (labsə) and Selkup [script needed] (ćopsə) (all likewise meaning "cradle").
