Proto-Finnic
Etymology
Borrowed from Proto-Iranian *wacáh (“yearling calf”), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *wet- (“year”). Other Uralic words from the same source include Erzya ваз (vaz), Moksha ваз (vaz) (both 'calf'), Mansi ва̄сиг (vāsig, “moose calf”).
