from *sъ(n)- +‎ *ǫxati (or *vъ(n)- +‎ *ǫxati) by rebracketing, with secondary change n > ň
related to Proto-Germanic *niuhsijaną
related to Proto-Germanic *hneusaną and German Nüster (considered improbable by Vasmer)
