Proto-Slavic

    Etymology

From pre-Proto-Slavic *kľupsent, equivalent to *kľusъ (“trot, gait”) + *-ę, from Proto-Indo-European *klewp-. Probably akin to Lithuanian klaũptis (“to kneel down”), klùpti (“to trip, to stumble”) and possibly further related to Proto-Germanic *hlaupaną (“to leap”) (from Proto-Indo-European *klewb-).
