Etymology
From *krȋkъ + *-ěti, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *kreik-. Cognate with Lithuanian krỹkti (“to cry (of birds), to quack”), krỹkšti (“to shout”), Ancient Greek κρίκε (kríke, “(he) squeals, (it) pops”).
