Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish آياقلو‎ (ayaqlu), آياقلی‎ (ayaqlı, “possessed of a foot, having legs, legged, footed, movable”), from earlier *aδaqlïɣ, from Proto-Turkic *adak-lïg (“having legs”). Equivalent to ayak (“paw, foot”) +‎ -lı. Cognate with Old Turkic 𐰑𐰴𐰞𐰍‎ (adaqlïɣ, “footed”), Old Uyghur ʾʾdʾqlyγ (adaqlïɣ, “legged”), Karakhanid اَذَقْلِغْ‎ (aδaqlïɣ, “possesing legs”).
