From Ottoman Turkish بكلمك‎, بكله‌مك‎ (beklemek)[1], from Common Turkic *bekle- (“to fortify, to protect”), from *bek (“firm, solid, stable”)[2], equivalent to pek +‎ -le. Cognate with Azerbaijani bəkləmək.
