Borrowed from a South Slavic language, ultimately from Proto-Slavic *besěda (“sitting outside, gathering, conversation”). Compare Old Church Slavonic бесѣда (besěda, “conversation, word”) Serbo-Croatian beseda (“word, speech”), Macedonian беседа (beseda).[1][2][3]
