Borrowed from a Turkic language. Compare Karakhanid بُرْسْمُكْ (borsmuk), Chagatai بورسوق (borsuq), Turkish porsuk, Azerbaijani porsuq, Kazakh борсық (borsyq), Bashkir борһыҡ (borhıq), Uyghur بورسۇق (borsuq) and Chuvash пурӑш (purăš). Ultimately, from Proto-Turkic *borsuk (“badger”).[1][2]
