Maybe from Proto-Celtic *kamb- (“crooked, bent”), from Proto-Indo-European *(s)ḱamb-, *(s)kamb- (“crooked”). Compare Latin cambiō, which has its origin in Celtic, and the descendants English change, French changer, Italian cambiare, Portuguese cambiar and Spanish cambiar.
