From Middle Irish cuisle (“pipe, tube”), from Old Irish cusle, of obscure origin. Possibly related to Proto-Germanic *husǭ (“outer covering”), from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kew- (“to cover”).[1] Not related to Latin pulsus.
