From Old Swedish forsækra, from Middle Low German vorsekeren,[1] equivalent of för- +‎ säker +‎ -a or för- +‎ säkra. Cognate with Danish forsikre, Norwegian Bokmål forsikre, Norwegian Nynorsk forsikre, forsikra, Dutch verzekeren and German versichern.
