gôl
Welsh
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /ɡoːl/
- Rhymes: -oːl
Usage notes
- Like many other unnaturalised, g-initial, feminine singular nouns derived from English, gôl does not undergo soft mutation following the article (y); however, any adjective that modifies gôl mutates as it normally would (e.g. y gôl gyntaf (“the first goal”)). Conversely, gôl does undergo nasal mutation to ngôl as usual.
Derived terms
- gôl adlam (“drop-goal”)
- gôl gosb (“penalty goal”)
