From Proto-Germanic *hauhahertaz. Equivalent to hēah (“high”) + heorte (“heart”). Cognate with Gothic 𐌷𐌰𐌿𐌷𐌷𐌰𐌹𐍂𐍄𐍃 (hauhhairts, “proud, haughty”).
