Etymology

From këputë (“sole”).[1] Other proposals include: 1) Camarda, from Greek παπούτσι (papoútsi). 2) Meyer, from Turkish papuç pabuç, from Ottoman Turkish پاپوش‎ (papush), from Persian پاپوش‎ (pâpuš), although these are less probable as they are reflected already in Albanian papuçë.
