Of onomatopoeic origin. Possibly influenced by kakk (“loaf of bread”), due to the shape of an owl's head.

Etymology 2
From Proto-Finnic *kakku, borrowed crom Proto-Norse *ᚲᚨᚲᛟ (*kakō, “cake”); compare Swedish kaka. Cognate to Finnish kakku and Votic kakku, kakko. Possibly a newer loan from Old Swedish or Swedish.
