From Ottoman Turkish قوریمق‎ (korumak), itself from Common Turkic *kōrï-. Cognate with Azerbaijani qorumaq (“to protect”), Old Turkic 𐰸𐰆𐰺‎ (korï-, “to protect”), Uzbek qoʻrimoq (“to protect”).
