From Old Swedish krubba, from Old Norse krubba, from Proto-Germanic *kribjǭ. Cognate with German Krippe, English crib.
Alternatively, perhaps borrowed from Middle Low German krübbe, kribbe, from Old Saxon kribbia, from Proto-Germanic *kribjǭ.
