melano- (“pigmented, darkened”) +‎ helio- (“Sun, star”) +‎ -phobia (“fear”). From black holes being collapsed stars. From black-colored creatures being highly pigmented living creatures, having a large amount of melanin. From Ancient Greek μέλας (mélas, “black, dark”)+ἥλιος (hḗlios, “the Sun”)+φόβος (phóbos, “fear”).

     I get anxiety when looking at those pictures of black holes, and I know there is a phobia for that, but I also get anxiety when looking at other kinds of holes like the Great Blue Hole in the ocean! I would actually rather die than go anywhere close to a hole like that. I can't find a name for this phobia. It is like a combination of Thalasphobia and Melanoheliophobia I guess.
