ontfermen
Dutch
Etymology
From Middle Dutch entfarmen, ontfarmen, from Old Dutch *intfarmon, with two prefixes ont- and af attached to Proto-West Germanic *armēn, from Proto-Germanic *armāną (“to pity”). The word erbarmen derives from the same source, via Old High German and with a different prefix. Related to arm (“poor”).
