Probably from Old Norse renna, yielding also Icelandic renna, Norwegian renne, Danish rende; from Proto-Germanic *rannijǭ, Also related to Gothic 𐍂𐌹𐌽𐌽𐍉 (rinnō), Old High German rinna (both from *rinnǭ).
