rodyti

Lithuanian

Etymology

Cognate with Latvian rãdît (“show, indicate”), possibly Old Church Slavonic радити (raditi, “take care of”), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *Hreh₁dʰ- (“to arrange”). Compare Old Irish ráidid (“talk”), Gothic 𐍂𐍉𐌳𐌾𐌰𐌽 (rōdjan, “speak”), Icelandic rœða (“talk”), Sanskrit राध्यते (rādhyate, “be satisfied”). The root may be *Hreh₁- (“to arrange”); see Latin reor (“reckon”).

Possibly the causative of ràsti (“find”), but a connection is difficult due to the latter's accentuation.
