Etymology

Sino-Vietnamese word from 數 (“number, several, count, fate”). Perhaps also a clipping of chữ số (“digit”) and a semantic loan from English digital (see also kĩ thuật số (“digital”, literally “based on "digit/number-based" technology”). Compare French numérique (“numerical; digital”).
