    Etymology
    
From Ottoman Turkish سودا (sevda) (compare Turkish sevda (“love”)), from Arabic سَوْدَاء (sawdāʔ, “black [bile]”), translation of the Greek μέλαινα χολή (mélaina kholḗ) from which the term melancholy is derived.
Akin to sevdàlīnka, sevdàlija, sevdàluk, sèvdi, sèvdisati.
