Inherited from Ottoman Turkish سلاحلنمق‎ (silaḥlanmaḳ, “to arm one's self”),[1][2] from سلاح‎ (silaḥ), equivalent to silah +‎ -la +‎ -n +‎ -mak. Cognates with Azerbaijani silahlanmaq.
