tüske (plural tüskék)

1. (botany) prickle (sharpened extension of the outer layers of a plant's stem)
   • 1981, “Van-e rózsa tövis nélkül?”, in Heti Híradó‎, volume 25, number 16:

     Ami ugyanis a rózsán látható, az nem tövis, hanem tüske, s e kettő korántsem ugyanaz.

     For what you can see on a rose is not a thorn but a prickle, and the two are far from being the same.

2. thorn, spine, prickle (any sharp protective part of a plant, without botanical distinction)
