teibí

Alternative forms
- teibidhe (classical, deprecated)
Etymology
From Old Irish teipide 'excising, abstracting, striking out', superficially as if from Old Irish *to+ess+bíthe, from Proto-Celtic *to- (prefix) + eks- ('ex, out') + *bítijo- ('striking'). Old Irish teipide was the verbal noun of do-eipen *[d̪ˠʌ.'ɛbʲ(ː)ɛ̈nˠ] 'excises, abstracts, strikes out', itself from earlier *to-e(s)sben-, from to- (prefix) + ess ('ex, out') + ben- 'strike'.
