From Proto-Inuit *tuu- (“tusk, ivory, ice pick, chisel, poke”), from Proto-Eskimo *tuɣǝ- (“tusk, to pick with sharp instrument”). Compare tooq (“ice pick”), and toorpaa (“thrusts at”).
