Etymology 1
Borrowed from Dutch wafel (“waffle”) from Middle Dutch wāfel (“waffle”) derivating from a Middle Dutch word corresponding to German wabe (“honey comb”) with roots in Middle French vaufre (“weaving”). Attested in Swedish since 1642.
