From Ottoman Turkish وحشی‎ (vahşi, “wild, savage”), from Arabic وَحْشِيّ‎ (waḥšiyy), adjectival form of وَحْش‎ (waḥš, “wild animal, monster”). Compare Persian وحشی‎ (vahši).
