Etymology
From Old Saxon fargetan, from Proto-Germanic *fragetaną, equivalent to vor- + *geten. The latter part, *geten does not exist unprefixed in Low German but would be cognate with English get. Cognate with English forget, West Frisian ferjitte and German vergessen.
