vyresnis

Lithuanian

Etymology

Probably derived from vyras (“man”).

Adjective

vyrèsnis m (feminine vyrèsnė) stress pattern 4

  1. (comparative) older; elder
Aš vyresnis už tave. ― I'm older than you.
  2. (comparative) of a higher rank; senior

Usage notes

The word vyresnis is the comparative form of an adjective that does not have a positive (non-comparative) degree. This is probably because it derives from the noun vyras.

The superlative form is vyriáusias (“oldest”), and the diminutive comparative is vyrėlèsnis (“a little older”).
