The Islamic Azad University, Ayatollah Amoli Branch (Persian: دانشگاه آزاد اسلامی واحد علوم و تحقیقات آیت‌الله آملی, Dāneshgāh-e Āzād-e Eslāmi Vāhed-e Olum va Tahghighāt Ayatollah Amoli) is a comprehensive branch of Islamic Azad University in Amol, Mazandaran Province, Iran.[1] this university with an area of 72 hectares, is considered the largest international university in northern Iran.[2][3][4]

History

In 1999, the people of this Amol region, including the villages of Firuzkola, Pasha Kola and Komdarreh, from the villages of Amol, donated 72 hectares of land to the government for the purpose of building a public university. The following year, with the approval of Azad University, the construction of this university began and this academic unit started to operate in 2000 with three fields of study. In the summer of 2010, at the fifty-ninth meeting of the Board of Trustees of Islamic Azad University, chaired by Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Abdullah Jasbi and other members of the Board of Trustees, the issue of establishing a branch of the Research Sciences Unit in Mazandaran province and the Ayatollah Amoli Unit was raised and it was finally approved with Jasbi's explanations.[5]
