The festival bears the name of one of cinema's most influential directors of all time, the Spanish director Luis Buñuel Portolés.[3]

The festival boasts of showing a varied range of national and international feature films as well as short films from all over the world. "Inspire filmmakers and audiences via the transformative power of film," is the festival's stated mission. An audience of film executives and buyers, journalists, film fans, and filmmakers can view features and shorts made by artists from around the world.[3][4]
