Etymology

Possibly from Proto-Albanian *antā (desire; breath, soul)[1], from *anja (to breathe) (whence ëj (to blow; to swell))[2], from Proto-Indo-European *h₂enh₁- (to breathe), + *-tā (nominal suffix). Compare semantics of Tocharian B āñme (wish, desire; self, inner being, soul)[3]. Possibly related to the personal name Illyrian *Andis.
