Turkish
Etymology
From Ottoman Turkish اویله (öyle), ایله (eyle), from Proto-Oghuz [Term?] (ayla). Compare Old Turkic [Term?] (/anlayu/), from 𐰉𐰆 (b¹u /an/, “she, he, it, that”) + 𐰞𐰖𐰆 (l¹y¹u /-lAyU/) (similative suffix). Compare Turkish o (“she, he, it, that”), from a merger of earlier an and ol. Compare böyle (“like this”), şöyle (“like that”).
Cognate with Azerbaijani elə, Turkmen eýle, etc.
