Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀚𑀺𑀩𑁆𑀪𑀸 (jibbhā), from Sanskrit जिह्वा (jihvā, tongue). Compare Hindi जीभ (jībh, tongue) and Punjabi ਜੀਭ (jībh, tongue).
