Etymology

From Proto-Abkhaz-Abaza *pǝ-nǝ-ć̣a,[1] from Proto-Northwest Caucasian *pʷA.[2] Cognate with Abaza пынцӏа (pəncʼa, nose), пынцӏыжв (pəncʼəžʷ, nostril), Adyghe пэ (pe, nose), and Kabardian пэ (pe).

Compare also Old Armenian պինչ (pinčʿ), Old Georgian პინჩი (ṗinči).
