Etymology 2

Probably from Proto-Slavic *ǫzъ (bond, tie) (ap B) or less likely *ǫza (chain) (ap A).

Bulgarian Etymological Dictionary explains the term as a recent derivative from Bulgarian везя (vezja, to web, to braid) (probably influenced by Bulgarian въже (vǎže)), however, there are attested forms already in Old Church Slavonic.
