Etymology 2
Probably from Proto-Slavic *ǫzъ (“bond, tie”) (ap B) or less likely *ǫza (“chain”) (ap A).
Bulgarian Etymological Dictionary explains the term as a recent derivative from Bulgarian везя (vezja, “to web, to braid”) (probably influenced by Bulgarian въже (vǎže)), however, there are attested forms already in Old Church Slavonic.
