From жьэ (źe, “mouth”) + кӏэ (kʼe, “tail”). The word may be reconstructible at the Proto-Circassian level as *žāḳ’ā /ʒaːkʼʲa/. Cognate with Adyghe жакӏэ (žaakʼe), жакӏьэ (žaakʲʼe); see there for more.
