From Proto-Turkic *yạpïĺč- (to glue, stick to)[1].

Cognate with Kazakh жабысу (jabısw), Kyrgyz жабышуу (jabışuu), Kumyk ябушмакъ (yabuşmaq), Uzbek yopishmoq, Turkish yapışmak, etc.
