Etymology

From Old Turkic keδim (keδim, clothes), from Proto-Turkic *keδ- (to dress, to wear). Earliest attested in Qarakhanid Turkic. Cognate with Bashkir кейем (keyem), Kyrgyz, Southern Altai, кийим (kiyim), Tatar кием (kiyem), Uzbek kiyim (clothing), etc.
