Etymology

From an unattested masculine byform of Byzantine Greek ταρχόν (tarkhón) from Arabic طَرْخُون (ṭarḵūn, tarragon), note also for this Serbo-Croatian trkos. Doublet of тарху́н (tarhún, tarragon) that has come from Arabic over Turkish to Bulgarian.
