Partial calque of Old Polish tytuń, borrowed from Ottoman Turkish توتون (tütün), reinforced by Crimean Tatar tütün, from Proto-Turkic *tütün, from *tüt(e)-. Doublet of тютю́нъ. First attested in the late 1600s.
