From *quban- (to be glad, rejoice), from Proto-Turkic *kïb (luck, happiness)[1].

Cognate with Kazakh қуану (quanu), Kyrgyz кубан- (kuban-), Karachay-Balkar къууаныргъа (quuanırğa), Uzbek quvonmoq, Turkmen guwanmak (to be glad, rejoice).
