Etymology
From Middle Armenian թարմայ (tʿarmay), from Old Anatolian Turkish, ultimately of the same Mongolic origin as Persian طارم (târam); see it for more. Among the cognates compare especially dialectal Turkish tarma (“large shelf in village houses and stables for setting down loads or for lying down; balcony; river dock”).
