Etymology

Tʿargmanutʿiwn dełocʿ has խաղպապ տուառուպ (xałpap tuaṙup) (var. խաղպապտո ռուպ (xałpapto ṙup)) as a translation of Arabic أَفْيُون‎ (ʔafyūn), from which Ališan understands the otherwise unknown խաղպապ (xałpap) and տոռուպ (toṙup) as synonyms of խաշխաշ (xašxaš). However, the gloss is probably a distortion of խաշխաշ (xašxaš) + ըռուպ (əṙup), ռուպ (ṙup, “thickened juice”).
