Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kewbʰ-, related to Gothic 𐌰𐍆𐍃𐌺𐌹𐌿𐌱𐌰𐌽 (afskiuban, cast away, shove off), Lithuanian skumbù and skùbti (to hurry up), Proto-Slavic *skuti,[1] Sanskrit क्षुभ्यति (kṣubhyati, to shake, be agitated).[2]
