Etymology

From Middle Persian bʾlyk (bārīg/k, thin, fine subtle). Akin to Old Armenian բարակ (barak), an Iranian borrowing. One of a few adjectives that has preserved the final -g/k phoneme and did not undergo the regular sound change from Middle Persian to Modern Persian. Others include تاریک (târik, dark) and نزدیک (nazdik, near).
